On November 19, Kommesk-Omir Insurance Company will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Today it is one of the largest insurers in the country. In anticipation of this much-celebrated event, Khanin Oleg, the Chairman of the Board of Kommesk-Omir, spoke about the company’s current activity and its prospects.

What stages in the company’s development were the most interesting and memorable for you?

Thirty years is not just a milestone, it is a significant period of time. During this period, there have been so many historical events and changes not only in the company, but also in the country and around the world!

For 30 years our company has played an important role in the development of the insurance industry in Kazakhstan. When we started working in the early 90s, the number of insurers grew exponentially, and in 1994-1995 that number was close to 600 or 700 companies. Today there are only two of them: Kommesk is one of them! Our team has worked hard to prove its reliability and viability. An interesting and significant event for the company was the introduction of the CIAS system (the Corporate Information and Analytical System): Insurance, getting an international rating, rebranding, opening a subsidiary life insurance company.

What have been the primary principles driving the company’s personnel management policy for all 30 years?

Employees must fit the culture of the company and feel valued for their contributions. We try not only to cultivate talents, but also to preserve them. We constantly work to increase the loyalty of our staff, we accept people who are ready for innovation, who are not afraid to face challenges. We have employees who have given the company over 25 years. Young people look to their senior colleagues as examples of taking opportunity for real growth and career advancement.

Kommesk is represented in 17 regions of Kazakhstan, our team is over 400 people with the average age of our employees being 37 years, and the average work experience in the company is four years. About 80% of the company employees have higher education, many of them study at universities.

Describe the company in three words …

Best. Team. Forever.

How do you see the company in 10 years?

A 10-year term for business planning is very long. The insurance industry is quite conservative and generally depends on general trends in the economy, however, it also does not stand still. On the other hand, a 10-year business plan will help you stay one step ahead. Life is changing rapidly. It is likely that over the next decade, along with the brand and products, not only attitudes will change, but also customers and employees as well.

I am sure that in 10 years Kommesk will become even better, more convenient, and more technologically advanced, there will be new solutions and niches. When you’re just starting out, living to at least 10 years in business can seem like a daunting task. We did it. How? By accomplishing our mission, focusing on customers, and developing an excellent management team, employee talent while adapting to new technologies – all this brought us to our 30th anniversary.

Thanks to all our customers who trust us with personal risk management and allow us to help them. We are grateful that the best insurance companies want to work with us. Thank you for your support over 30 years! We can’t wait to start the next chapter of our story together.
