Leaders have a lot on their plate – managing teams, making tough calls, and trying to keep everyone happy, including family (good luck with that one!). With all that responsibility, it’s no wonder stress likes to crash the party uninvited. But there are ways to not let it ruin the fun!

Here are five ideas on how to take charge and maintain your well-being:

Self-Care is Self-Cool

Making time for activities that you really enjoy – whether it’s the gym, cycling, biking, reading, eating well, having a massage, or skeet shooting (after all, you’re the CEO of your life, so no judgment!).

Squad Goals:

Surrounding yourself with a crew of quality people. Venting to your buddies can be therapeutic and prevent you from going full-on Godzilla at work.

Eat Smart, Not Hard:

Fueling up with nutritious grub and staying hydrated. Remember: protein and fiber-rich food is your best friend, especially if you want to be healthy and fit. The correct amount of protein will maintain muscle, improve sleep, and boost serotonin and dopamine levels.  Numerous clinical studies and research demonstrate that Omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins can work wonders in reducing stress levels. (Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior, Vol 132, 2015; Nutrients’ Systematic Review, Sept. 2019).

Eating about 400 grams of red fatty fish a week or having proper Omega-3 supplementation is like giving your body and brain a VIP pass to longevity.

No need to be hard on yourself though – an occasional burger won’t kill (probably).

For a personalized approach, finding a professional nutritionist can be a game-changer.

Om Sweet Om:

NEW and not-so-new mindfulness practices like deep breathing or meditation will help you stay grounded when things get out of hand (and we all know, they sometimes do).

Don’t Be a Tough-It-Out Hero:

If stress is really doing a number on you, seeking professional help is crucial. A therapist can provide effective techniques and strategies for managing stress and maintaining emotional balance.

It’s important to remember, a leader’s well-being affects more than just the leader. By managing stress, one sets an example for the team and creates a happier, healthier workplace. Taking care of yourself, having laughs with good company, and not letting stress cramp your style prolongs your lifespan and improves your quality of life.
