The purpose and objectives of the project:

Kazakhstan International School proudly presents its innovative partnership with Kolsai National Park, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable education and community engagement. This project promotes educational excellence and ecological stewardship by working collaboratively to provide beehive boxes to the National Park.

Implementation of the project:

At the heart of our endeavor lies a dynamic curriculum integration between Science and Design within our 9th Grade classes. With a focus on the role of bees in ecological systems, students explored interdisciplinary perspectives. Through hands-on learning experiences, they delved into the intricate dynamics of bee behavior and ecosystem interactions. Armed with newfound knowledge, they began applying design thinking principles and craftsmanship to construct bee hive boxes.   The construction of the beehive boxes gave our students the opportunity to transform learning into action and enabled them to lead conservation efforts to support local bee populations. Working closely with Kolsai Lakes National Park, we have installed the beehives in a place where they are needed.   Central to our approach is the spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement. Students actively engaged with park officials and beekeepers, ensuring that their efforts were tailored to the needs of the ecosystem and its inhabitants. By visiting the park in person, they gleaned valuable insights, and they are continuing to refine their designs and strategies for maximum impact. This is a legacy project which will continue each year, and the next cohort are already preparing.

Results:

Kazakhstan International School’s collaborative project with Kolsai National Park represents our use of education and training for local empowerment. It is an honor to submit this endeavor for consideration for the Eurobak award.
