The purpose and objectives of the project:

Ambition Zero Carbon project in Kazakhstan aims to enhance patient health and protect the environment by lowering carbon footprint. The company provides employees with electric cars, develops charging stations infrastructure, and tree planting. Direct stakeholders are AstraZeneca employees, and indirect stakeholders are city residents and the healthcare community.

Implementation of the project:

Ambition Zero Carbon consists of AZ Fleet (purchasing electric vehicles, developing charging station infrastructure) and AZ Forest initiatives (tree planting).

Phases:

AZ Fleet: started EV purchases at the end of 2023, gradually expanding the fleet, and charging network. We collaborate with Astana Motors to install charging stations in Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent.

AZ Forest: tree planting started in 2018. Overall, 78 employees are involved in Ambition Zero Carbon project.

Results:

Currently, there are 14 EVs, 10% of fleet. The project is long-term, aiming for 30% EVs by the end of 2024. Agreements for new charging points are in place. 96% of employees understand their role in sustainability. The project fosters team cohesion and engagement, with plans for further expansion. Total budget spent is over 117 mln tenge.
